I totally disagree with you there Stu, I think there's plenty of substance to her music, the lyrics all have quite cryptic meanings and she's making some of the strongest pop melodies in the mainstream atm.

Well, pop melodies don't need substance to be great [just take a look at Girls Aloud] and I have said on occasion that I am certainly a fan of the music.

The lyrics? Okay, I will give you that, she explores a few themes but she is still at the shallow end of the pool IMO. Most of what she is writting about is love, sex, fame, love, sex and fame. It's almost like she is just writting about herself. Her own creation. Who knows, maybe she will branch out.

The real style and no substance thing though is the fashion. I can accept that it started out as an attempt to draw attention to herself, which is perfectley acceptable as after all she is an artist, but the Telephone video just pushed it over the edge for me.

The cigarette head thingy? Come on. It stinks of trying too hard without there being any point behind it. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. If I didn't know any better it could have been any Saturday night sketch show taking the mick out of her.

It's a shame that your missing the point. Trust me, if you were a fan you'd realise there's so much more to her, things you are completley missing. You mentioned there's no point in the cigarette shades, but she has explained why she done that, and she had a perfectley valid explanation with a meaning behind it.

Don't patronize me, kid. I'm not missing the point. I just don't like what she is doing. She can have all the pseudo reasons in the world to twist and bend to make her outfits appear with a purpose I just don't like the girl. She doesn't tickle my fancy. Not. My. Thing.

I simply can't support a waste of perfectly good cigarettes.

Can you back that up? Why does it matter? Have you bought into the cult of personality that much?
