self-harm issues are very serious and should not be ridiculed in any way. I find it very sad that people can make light of a condition which can start through someone feeling so low or traumatised by some event in their life...There are plenty of innocent, light hearted topics out there for you to make fun of, why don't you log on to another site?

Really.

And now BB has started this kind of died off...and won't arise again.

Fair enough.

I don't agree with the fact that so many people associate "mostly the younger generation might i add" self harm to "MOSHERS OR EMOS"!

This is complete claptrap.
You don't know that guy in the business suit you walked past this morning might be really depressed, and might have a string of red marks up his wrist.

People who self harm, often have distractions within themselves to hide it in the outside world. So that nothing is suspected of them.

But people i know walk around boasting about the amount of blood they lost. It's quite frankly sick!

And that is why i refuse to communicate with them, because there depression is false to the core. They are in effect attention seeking.

The self harm adverts are a promotion to those who do it for reasons of significance and it's like a helping hand when they know they can phone that number 24 hours aday.

I bet if i asked them [the people i used to socialise with] if they'd been to a clinic or phoned someone they'd go "no".

There surely has to be a way of stopping these attention seekers from making light of a situation which is rather quite serious and happens everyday.

I think that the problem is Ryan even if we feel they are doing it for attention there really has to be some deep rooted problems. I have worked with young people who self harm in the past and I have also done a lot of research aruond this issue for my work BUT I am no closer to understanding, it's one of those things that only the people who do understand and often even they are not erally sure why they do it !

I agree it is usually ear marked as something done only by young people, and to be fair that is when the majority start. That said I know of doctors, solicitors, friends etc.. who do it and even as adults are not able to control the stronge urges they get to hurt themselves.

Mostly the answers I was given was "Control" they felt it was the only thing that they had control over in their lives. If someone feels the need to show you their injuries you can ask them not to or you can ask them why? maybe they are waiting for someone to ask them that!
