Its not the 'stupid' ones that worry me, its the desperate ones who are ready to cling on to a bit of hope.

Isnt that what most religions are about though. Hope and faith that there is something after we shuffle off this mortal coil?

Exactly. Very well said.
All religion is born out of a fear of death, and the hope that we will get 1 more chance to see our dead loved ones.
When people start worrying about this, they stop living their life to the fullest, just incase the blow there chance at ever lasting bliss, or 72 virgins or whatever.
Chauncey your right its very sad, and i don't mean that in the drippy kind of way.

Absolutley, and if the people buying in to it aren't financially exploited then hey ho, alls well. However, it begs the question, how are they funding the 'Cause' I haven't heard Dave explain that bit except for a flippant remark he made to Keely which quite frankly was quite alarming. (As I cant recall the exact figure he mentioned I won't attempt to repeat what was said but it was on th HL show so I'm sure you all heard it too)

I find it hard to believe that some evil cult leader guy chose entering BB to bring awareness to the faith. Surely with all the loot stolen from the duped cult members some sort of flyer campaign or cunning adverts in the local church news letter would have been achievable?

Probably convincing old people to 'have fun and join the glory'(and give up all their life savings)

Wouldnt suprise me in the slightest to see Dave in the papers in a few years for trying to con people with his 'drunk on jesus' lies.

But people like that are egotists who think scamming people isnt a crime.
Dodgy pastors like that often begin to believe their own lies and think they have a special link to God that justifies their position of power and gathering 'donations' for 'the cause'.

Don't really think Dave is scamming old ladies lol,but he has talked about/there are videos of him on youtube of him on 'conventions' in America, where there are obviously gullible, feebleminded fools attending, and I doubt Dave is just going for 'the glory',he's making money off someone along the way.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit...Be cheerful.

Everyone seems so conerned about Dave and the money thing. Do you all really believe that Dave is the only minister ever to take donations or accept money? The Catholic Church is the richest owner of fine art in the world, while people are dying for the want of a drink of clean water. The Church of England is one of the richest landowners in the country, while people sleep on the streets because they've got nowhere else to go. I believe individuals may be doing it because they have faith, but the organised, patriarchal religions of the world do not demonstrate that they care about anything other than controlling the masses and making them believe they are "miserable sinners" who need forgiveness.

Whilst you make a decent point you could make that point re starving/homeless people for any large company or organisation in the world

You could ask how on earth do we give 1 person 50 million quid in a lottery etc

Not really the point they are making is that the church is supposed to be seen as benevolent, not a going concern. Lottery winners are entitled to do with it what they want.... unless they are priests etc.

Business organisations don't preach Faith, Hope and Charity, whereas religion does. Also, if businesses didn't exist, they wouldn't employ people and there'd be even more poor people in the world. I have no excuse for the banks.

I suppose there could be a valid argument that the lottery also helps "good causes". Personally I think the lottery is a tax on the hopelessly optimistic.

One minute I like him and he says wise things, then he starts that stupid laughing and acts like an idiot.
