But, catch yerself on, actor charles lawson admits his dramatic comeback as the violent jailbird ex-hubby of rovers return landlady liz may be short-lived.

He fears his character could be killed off as writers plan explosive storylines to coincide with the show's 50th anniversary.

One plot sees a number of key cast members die in a horrific tram crash.

Charles, 50, reckons he will be around until at least the end of december.

He said: "i'm going back for a few episodes. I haven't seen the scripts yet. But i suspect i could get the chop."

the veteran actor, who is set to narrate a stage version of the series in salford, added: "work's work for me.

"i'd be sad if jim is killed off. But really i would just be waiting for my next job."
