Yes, that is what you were told to think but the fact is that they were pulling big numbers and getting a good portion of the highlights and their 'show within a show' was getting its own ratings. (which tells you that people were entertained).
Clips of them on YT gets a fair good amount of views,
and,
Both of them were popular enough to make it to the near end - which tells you something (can you think of what?)

But they didn't have a gay showmance and were not having relationship problems like some divorced people... ..so yes, i have no doubt you found them boring.
In fact, I'd worry if you did find them entertaining.
