My computers clock is losing time. Every time I boot up it's lost anything from half an hour to 12 hours. My OH thinks it's the CMOS battery that needs changing. True?

Can't really think it's the battery, as it should still synchronise as soon as the computer connects to the web

That happened to my sisters laptop, I just set it to manual time or something and that fixed it for a while, although if the batter utterly goes it can be annoying as you have to reset it.
