Lady Gaga and Beyonce are among the artists banned from music download web sites by the Chinese government.

The artists, we learn from the Globe and Mail, have fallen afoul of respectable Chinese whims for singing things like "Girls run the world", and, er, something by Lady Gaga.

One hundred songs by the artists have been placed on an updated blacklist of Internet tunes by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, according to the Globe and Mail, and download web sites have around two weeks to delete them. We do not know what will happen to those firms that do not, but we imagine that it will be unpleasant and costly.

Other songs that The INQUIRER would prefer not to hear again anyway have also been banned. These include "Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry and "I Want It That Way", by the Backstreet Boys. In the past the Chinese Government, which strangely we are starting to feel warmer about, has also banned covers of Celine Dion songs and some numbers by April Levine.

Lady Gaga along with Christina Aguilera cause China the most concern and, as well as being the most censored artists in the country, both are considered "threats" to national security. µ

Gary Barlow is moaning that he's tired of hearing about Gaga/Adele and wants their songs banned from the X-Factor. They're too talented for their songs to be used on it anyway!

Call be cynical, but it's probably more to do with the fact that he was expecting loads of his own songs to be performed like when Katy Perry guest judged (or like on The Voice) but it ended up with the good entertaining, relevant (modern) artists rather than his own "past it's sell by date" band.
