With the old Analogue all you get is fuzzyness

With Digital the screen skips and stuff, it is unwatchable.

I'm using Pay TV Cable to watch tv now though, so don't have to put up with it.

At my Parents in their back room they use digital and it's awful

They don't get the ABC or Nine Networks!
So can't watch bloody Cricket or Kids shows out the back!!!

That's why I hate Digital.

In the past I VHS tape off a digital STB I taped the FA Cup final between Pompy & Chelsea!

to be able to record onto VCR I put the cords into the VCR, then some more cords from the VCR into the TV.

Probably won't fo it though, as the person doesn't know how to tape stuff!

Big turn off: 30,000 flood helpline as millions of homes lose BBC2 in digital TV switchover

The channel’s signal disappeared in London and the Home Counties as part of the final stages of the changeover from analogue

More than 30,000 viewers deluged a helpline after millions of homes lost BBC2 overnight in the digital TV switchover.

The channel’s signal disappeared in London and the Home Counties on Wednesday as part of the final stages of the changeover from analogue.

The switch-off affected almost five million households – and they will experience similar difficulties when the signals for BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 are turned off two weeks from now.

Digital UK, the body in charge of the switchover, last night confirmed it took 31,000 calls from viewers who could not tune in on Wednesday.

It said it had expected to get quite a few calls, but the exceptionally high figure showed that many viewers are still unsure of what to do.

Despite a multi-million pound information campaign it is thought that hundreds of thousands have been caught on the hop.

The elderly and disabled are believed to have been particularly affected and in need of extra assistance.

Around 80% of the five million are thought to have had a digital alternative already in place. The switch began in 2006 but recently moved into its final stages. The process will be completed in October, when Ulster and Tyne Tees become the last to be converted.

The Government-backed scheme means that more TV channels can be crammed into the same wavebands previously used for just a few analogue channels.

There are more than 1,150 transmitters across Britain, and they have been gradually switched over to digital in the last few years.

An analogue transmitter at Crystal Palace caused much of the disruption for London viewers on Wednesday because it serves one of the biggest populations in the country.

Deborah Bain, of Digital UK, said: “Almost all TVs have already been converted but we know that elderly and disabled people will need a little extra help.”

She added that an estimated one million older sets in bedrooms and kitchens still needed be converted or people would lose channels.

The Ł630million switchover will bring digital to 98.5% of the UK population.

A number of areas in the south have yet to have their transmitters turned off, but are expected to do so in the next two weeks.

The change will result in nearly all of the country receiving more than 40 extra digital channels, including BBC3, BBC4 and additional services from ITV and Channel 4.

More people will also be able to receive high-definition channels. Around two thirds of the country has now made the switch – with a further 2.5 million households to follow over the coming months.

The remaining areas, where both Freeview and analogue signals are still being broadcast, include Tyne Tees, the eastern part of the Meridian region in Kent and East Sussex and Northern Ireland.

Viewers may have to retune their Freeview TVs or set-top boxes, but relatively few are likely to need to buy new equipment.
