Why should you give it back to the owner? Surely, the owner doesn't care enough to keep it safe. Keep it, lad, if you can unlock it. It shouldn't be that difficult to find. The code I'm on about here now. They're only a bunch of numbers - it must be some combination. It just may take a while.

THIS^ I would never keep someone elses phone,so many personal photos etc on them,it is just WRONG,Take it to the police station,you know it makes sense.
