Hi, I'm Indy, and I'm an American addicted to UK TV.

I'd kindly point you to Tim Anderson, the Wisconsonite who won Masterchef series before last. Granted, that's not a viewer-voted show, but if they'd thought he'd be hated, they would've found a reason to get rid of him, especially since he made some very weird things along the way.

That said, there are some shows that relish skewering Americans more than others. Buzzcocks comes to mind specifically, but again, when they get idiots like Kelly Rowland, who can blame you?

You'd be hard pressed to scrape up many Americans who consider the UK the "motherland". Perhaps that perception is part of the problem. The majority of Americans, statistically, have no tie to the UK at all. They're more likely to be a mix of German, eastern European, Italian, etc, and those of us who can trace our history here back to before it was an independent country are a minority.

Aside from a fringe of people with a bizarre obsession with the royals, the truth is the UK is pretty much a non-entity outside Dr. Who, Monty Python, and Top Gear. In other words, it's Mostly Harmless.
