A wedding had to be stopped when the best man lost the ring in the middle of the ceremony.



Bride Elizabeth Gray and her groom Lewis Aubrey were halfway through their vows when Lewis's brother Matt dropped the ring.

Flower arrangements were pulled apart, carpets lifted and floor grates removed in the effort to find the jewellery, The Daily Telegraph reports.

After ten minutes of looking, it was still nowhere to be found, so the bride's mother offered up the use of her own ring so that the couple could be married.

Following the ceremony, the bride and groom posed for photographs while others scoured the church in pursuit of the ring. The wedding party headed off to the reception, expecting that they wouldn't see it again.

However, two hours later Rev Nicholas Calver returned to the church with a spade and found the missing wedding band.

Reverend Calver said: "I was determined to find it and went back to the church in the evening.

"In the end, there was a crack between the step and the raised dais. I thought it must be down there so I levered them apart with a spade to make the gap bigger, shone a torch down and saw the ring.

"I took it down to the reception and the best man was standing outside. I poked him in the ribs and said, 'You owe me a drink'. He was overjoyed."

The Reverend then accompanied the best man inside so that the bride could be presented with her real ring.

Kelly Love, one of the bridesmaids, said: "I have never heard a noise like it. The whole place erupted. The vicar was like a hero."
