You cannot make a call on that. We all know what hounding by the media can cause. Imagine the weight of something like this on your shoulders? Continued pressure could send either of them to breaking point.

The radio DJs behind a prank call to the hospital treating the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge have apologised after the nurse they duped apparently took her own life.

2Day FM presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian were posing as the Queen and Prince Charles when they got Jacintha Saldanha to put them through to another nurse, who divulged details of Kate's treatment for severe morning sickness.

In their first interview since the tragedy, Ms Greig said she wanted to say sorry to Ms Saldanha's husband and two children.

"I've just thought about this a million times in my head that I've wanted to just reach out to them and just give them a big hug and say sorry," she said, wiping away tears.

"I hope they're OK, I really do. I hope they get through this."

Mr Christian said: "We just hope that they get all the love and support and care that they need."

When asked how he felt he simply said: "Gutted, shattered, heartbroken."

Ms Greig told of the moment she was told of Ms Saldanha's death, describing it as "the worst phone call I've ever had in my life".

"I haven't stopped thinking about it since it happened. I remember my first question was 'was she a mother?'"

The pair said the prank call idea came up in a team meeting, and that it was "collaborative" rather than a single individual's idea.

The DJs are on indefinite leave and have been getting "intensive" counselling to deal with the death of Ms Saldanha

..my heart goes out to these djs...it all went so horribly wrong, but they couldn't have known that...I hope this puts an end to any negative media or public attention..and lets them start to heal themselves...a lot of people have suffered through this...and yes..they were part of it..but imo not a part which was intentionally malicious in anyway....
