Police have confirmed that the number of alleged sex abuse victims of Jimmy Savile has reached 450.

The Operation Yewtree team say 589 alleged victims have come forward during their investigation of offences committed by Savile and others.

Detectives say 82% of all alleged victims are female and eight out of 10 were children or young people

A senior police officer in charge of the Jimmy Savile investigation has warned of more arrests to come as he disclosed that the late BBC presenter had been accused of 31 rapes in 7 different areas of the country.

Revealing the scale of the investigation, Commander Peter Spindler said 450 individuals had made allegations against the former BBC celebrity, mostly of sexual assault. It is understood that 139 individuals made allegations against others including celebrities and people in positions of power.

Spindler said the scale of the investigation and the number of victims who had come forward had given officers the opportunity to provide as clear an overview as possible of Savile's activities over several decades. Operation Yewtree has recorded 199 crimes in 17 forces in which Savile is the suspect.

A WORLD-famous pop star is being investigated over alleged sex offences after his name was passed to police working on the Jimmy Savile case.

The platinum-selling artist, a household name, is one of 25 figures facing probes under Operation Yewtree, which began after the Savile scandal broke earlier this year.

Police are also expected to arrest a film director in the next few weeks.

The name of the pop star was first handed to police in 2008 when a convicted sex offender claimed he was part of a paedophile ring with Savile.

The paedo was in Whitemoor Prison, Cambs, at the time and passed a list of other child sex offenders to his probation officer. It is understood the list was handed to police but there was not enough evidence for them to act.

Now his name has come up again, he is being “actively investigated”, according to sources close to the inquiry.

Think about it, he has an unhealthy interest in children creeps into their bedrooms at night and tries to buy them off with toys.

We won't even mention the failure to file a flight plan with the CAA and various offences relating to the movement of annimals.

Absolutely, I don't know what is worse, having it announced who has been arrested and who are then being interviewed or not saying who is arrested and a great many people thinking it could be someone totally unconnected to any of this.

Which in the high profile scandal this has become is exactly what will happen all the time until people are totally cleared of any unsavoury acts or even any substantiated involvement in the crimes being investigated.

I was absolutely terrified of the thought of Santa Claus and even worse the idea he could see and hear everything I was doing or saying.
I couldn't sleep on Christmas Eve for all the wrong reasons.

Comedian Freddie Starr and publicist Max Clifford have been rebailed to return on dates in February and March pending further inquiries.

Starr, 69, was arrested in Warwickshire on November 1 as part of Operation Yewtree, the investigation into allegations of sex abuse surrounding Savile and others.

He had been publicly implicated in the Savile scandal but strongly denied any accusations.

PR guru Clifford was arrested on December 6 at his Surrey home on suspicion of sexual offences.

He described the allegations as "damaging and totally untrue".

A Scotland Yard spokesman today said: "Two men arrested as part of Operation Yewtree have been rebailed to return pending further inquiries.

"A man in his 60s ('Yewtree 2'), who was arrested on November 1, has been rebailed to return on a date in March pending further inquiries.

"A second man in his 60s ('Yewtree 6'), who was arrested on December 6, has been rebailed to return on a date in February pending further inquiries."

Former pop star Gary Glitter and a man in his 70s, reported to be former television producer Wilfred De'Ath - also among those arrested as part of Operation Yewtree - were re-bailed by police last week.

Glitter, 68, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was the first person to be detained on October 28, and a man reported to be De'Ath, a former BBC employee who once produced a radio show presented by Savile, was arrested at his home in Cambridgeshire on November 11.

Both were re-bailed to return on dates in February 2013.

I don't suppose they'll enjoy Xmas much .....

The police investigation into sexual abuse carried out by Jimmy Savile has reached Cornwall.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed it has received six allegations as part of Operation Yewtree and is working closely with officers involved in the investigation.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the incidents in the West country were currently being reviewed to see if further investigation was required.

Of the allegations reported, four are in Devon and one in Cornwall with one other request from another police force to visit a victim who lives in the area.

Detectives investigating historical claims of sex abuse linked to TV presenter Jimmy Savile have arrested a man in his 70s in London.

The man was arrested at 06:30 GMT on Wednesday on suspicion of sexual offences by officers from Operation Yewtree.

He is now in custody in a south London police station.

The Metropolitan Police would not name the man or give details about the allegations.

Savile, who died last year aged 84, was a Radio 1 DJ and the presenter of the Jim'll Fix It show on BBC One. The police say 450 victims have alleged abuse by Savile alone.

The man arrested on Wednesday is the eighth person - seven of whom have been under arrest - interviewed by police since the inquiry began.
