Poor guy, was being the greatest he's ever been then he gets killed off like that, such a shame

I agree and I suspect they axed Derek because when Jamie spoke to the press or did interviews he was pleased about playing Derek, although he want to portray more sides to Derek but the show bosses wanted the character to be a pure villain...

Jamie's contract was always a year and ever since they introduced him, they knew what they wanted to happen. Stories are planned 12-18 months in advance.
