The curse of genius? I wont pretend to understand this condition. One would have to ask if this condition keeps coming back to haunt him as so many others. wouldn't it be an option to change ones lifestyle , in his case why doesn't he work less perhaps or live a lower profile lifestyle for a few years? He seems to put enormous pressure on himself to complete a phenomenal amount of work. I realise hes an absurdly talented man but hes only human after all. I would also add having watched many of his shows from history to quizzes and travelling across the US....There is a certain joy missing....almost as though he feels he has to over-intellectualize everything to communicate with his audience.....whereas billy Connolly on tour just smokes a woodbine and plays the banjo naked with hobos....he needs to give himself a break

Maybe, but depression and bi-polar can hit anyone regardless of how their life is. Whether their successful, stable or not.
The joy missing will be the depression, it saps the happiness out of everything. You could have the perfect life and depression would still make it hell.
