You don't think it's sexist because women and men have to be involved. ok. Well, not much I can say to that.

His role in that joke is one of agency and power, he is the one riding. Her role is one of submission, she is being ridden like a racehorse. Sex becomes something that is done to her, rather than something in which she is an equal participant.

I'm sure the philosophical aspects were the last thing on his mind!
![]() I'm guessing the producers encourage then to be a bit 'saucy'. |

Incidentally, I am not slating Dex for making that joke. Sometimes sexist jokes are funny. Not all sexism requires outrage and anger.
I'm just observing that, to my min, that was one of the most, if not the most, sexist comments on that show tonight. Nor am I saying that Sam was a laugh a minute golden boy. He was very coarse and crude and sexist in the way he assessed all the women according to whether or not he fancied them. But there are degrees of sexism, and to my mind Dexter's joke outstripped Sam's comments in that regard. Though Sam's were coarser and more uncomfortable to listen to. |

Not in that joke. And maybe it would have been better had Dexter made the comment that way since the question he was being asked was whether or not she would hook up with a guy. In response he chose to make it about what the guy was going to do. He placed agency with the man in response to a question about what the woman was going to do.

The difference is that Dexter had plenty of other, relevant things to say.
Sam might as well not have been there. They obviously invited him purely out of courtesy, as winner. I doubt we'll see Sam again. But Dexter could become a regular. Gina was pretty useless. |

My only problem with this whole thing, is the one sided approach to sexism. It's sexism if it's Sam, but it's not sexism if it's Dexter. |

None of that changes whether or not what he said was sexist. And again, I agree that Sam was pretty uninspiring and at times even embarrassing tonight. it's just a bit hypocritical to round on him for sexism given what Dexter had said. Round on him for being like a fish out of water and not entertaining, sure. Round on him for being very very coarse and crude. But if rounding on him for sexism, also round on Dexter. Personally, I'd suggest not rounding on either of them. I've heard worse than anything either of them said, out here in the real world. Last edited by DanaC; 23-08-2013 at 12:15 AM. |

Some tried to suggest that Dexter's "rodeo" discussion with other HM's where he was explaining what that sexual practice involved was just as bad (if not worse) than Sam's rather offensive comments to women in there. |

Well, personally, I think a comment that boils down to 'I fancy you' is less offensive than a comment that boils down to 'you'd make a good wife because you're domesticated' which was how Dexter approached wooing the ladies

![]() Dexter was playing a role for a while in the house, he has admitted that much, so most of what he said in the early days should be discounted. |
