The people to be wary of are the ones that go from best friend to slagging people off in about 2.5 minutes. Genuinely nice people just don't do that.

Bingo. I have a few friends who never want to talk about books, movies, their views on things or anything. Their sole interest seemingly is just ... talking about
people. I hate that. It's like there is absolutely nothing more to their existence than sending the "drinks?" text, talking about people, getting drunk, putting the pics on Facebook etc.
I find it so dull. That's why I generally get on better drinking with my dads friends. I don't seem to get along with people my own age a whole lot and find nothing to talk about with them.
But yeah this thread reminds me that I'm a surprisingly trusting person. I usually take to people straight away and even if I have an inkling that they're capable of talking about me behind my back later I don't get offended because I just chalk it up to the nature of the ego, so to speak.
There was a period for a few years where I pretended I enjoyed it all, yeah, but it involved me having to drink loads to get there.
