Strictly Come Dancing's unexpected success Mark Benton is hoping this week will be his last, a source close to the actor has said.

The Waterloo Road star has been experiencing trouble with an injured knee and is said to be on the verge of quitting after he was saved for the third consecutive week on Sunday.

Benton, who was favoured by the judges over rugby champ Ben Cohen, has been forced to wear leg support after tearing his knee cartilages practicing the foxtrot.

A source told The Sun: ‘Mark is in agony with his knee and knows he needs an op. He’s praying next week will be his last so he can give his knee a much-earned rest.’

‘He’s already got to put the op on hold until after the Strictly tour — already announced with his name attached.’

The show saw former rugby star Ben Cohen become the eighth contestant to leave the competition – much to the dismay of fans who felt he deserved to stay.

Furious viewers took to Twitter to protest against the judges’ decision to save Benton, after both men had found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard and going head-to-head in the dance-off to stay in the show.
