I see little difference with this clown and all the moronic "he is with the angels now" sentiments expressed over the death of the wee boy in Edinburgh.

If you do believe in a god then you must also believe that it can do things like kill people, create people, cause weather and earth events.

He is just as bad as any religionist who says they believe in gods. I see him, the Pope, the Artcheejit of canterbury and the lady down the street who goes once a week to church as all the same.

I think there's a difference between believing your chosen faith to be a source of positivity and inner strength to rely upon in hard times and using your faith to justify your personal prejudices and wish ill upon groups in society because you've interpreted your faith in a way that you believe allows you to do that with no qualms.

The word "faith" simply means someone who says they believe something even though there is no evidence and the thing they say they believe in beggars belief in its stupidity. Mainly the word means "i am just going along with what my parents brainwashed me into believing" 9 times out of 10

people hide behind that word as if its something good, its not its a horrible excuse for not thinking.

I think faith is a lot stronger than that, and the effects of mass faith can certainly have a strong effect, whether positive or negative. Wishful thinking is just that; faith carries energy that can be absolutely tangible.

Faith is what gets people out of bed in the morning when they have a serious illness and there's only a 5% chance that they might live. Faith is that 5%, that little ray of hope that gets people through the day and gives them the desire to want to see tomorrow too. Faith doesn't have to be religious. Faith is simply the belief that your life is worth something, means something and you shouldn't give up on that, in my opinion. So what if people are brought up to believe in something that might not exist? If that belief gives them the inner strength to achieve good things in their life then what does it matter?

Oh, and, I'm an atheist.

That is not faith that is our instinct to survive that has been millions of years in the making through natural selection/evolution.

Its this desire to live/mate that makes us carry on. Our lives have no meaning, our lives are as meaningless as that of a tree or a slug. We are a product of time and the basic ingredients of this universe occurring in a certain order in a certain place.

No its the placebo effect that works mildly with endorphins in the brain. A placebo will not help if you have lost a limb, have aggressive cancer or toothache. It is good for hypochondriacs however.

Well there's no pill / therapy that will cure either limb loss or aggressive cancer, so those examples are irrelevant. You need to have faith it will work, how could anyone believe any pill could cure their limb loss? There obviously has to be the potential for a cure. Nobody with an aggressive cancer would have very much faith that a drug could cure them, although maybe one could offer some relief.

It's good for more than hypochondriacs, I can dig out some very good articles if you like? You obviously know how it works, both the patients on the real drug and the patients on the false drug, both having faith the drug will cure them, have similar success rates in their cure.

The Chinese firmly believe that mind and body are inextricably linked in the causes and relief of disease; I would tend to agree.

I've also seen people drunk on non-alcoholic beer, believing it's the real McCoy. THAT's funny.
