Warner Bros has confirmed the title for its upcoming Batman vs Superman movie.

Zack Snyder's much-anticipated comic book film will be called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The title hints at an origin story for Snyder's future Justice League project.

Principal photography on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is beginning today (May 21) in Detroit.

Henry Cavill will star as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the forthcoming movie.

A photo seemingly of Gadot in her Diana Prince persona emerged earlier this week, while last week the first picture of Affleck in his Batman costume was unveiled, along with the new-look Batmobile.

Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are expected to return for the Man of Steel sequel, alongside Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth.

Batman vs Superman will be released on April 29, 2016 in the UK and May 6, 2016 in the US.

I really want this to be good but the desperation to copy Marvel's cinematic universe along with the fact that they've cast a matchstick as Wonder Woman is giving me pause. Man of Steel was also pretty bad so I've not got high hopes.

They should have kickstarted Batman and Wonder Woman in their own films before throwing them all together. Avengers wouldn't have worked if Thor and Captain America were just thrown into an Iron Man sequel without their films setting it all up and it probably won't work here especially considering how...fantastical WW's origins are.

Not sure how I feel about this, I can imagine it just being full of foreshadowing for the Justice League film and end up being more like a glorified trailer. Aside from the MCU films which manage to be consistently good, there are too many reboots and origin stories these days which never seem to go anywhere. Part of the reason The Amazing Spiderman 2 was so disappointing is that there was way too much setting up the next one and the film itself seemed like an afterthought. A couple of obligitory set pieces and not much else (as cool as Electro was). Just can see this being the same situation. Hopefully they pull it off though...
