So I'm not sane for distancing myself from a friend with a filthy house?

It is a bit odd. If she herself was clean and presentable and you rarely ever went to her house why would you give up the friendship?

Well if we'd carried on being close I would've been invited a lot more, so it would have been a big issue...

Yes...you don't live there, why do you care? Why you would effectively break off a friendship with someone and lose out on so many benefits like someone to call on when you're in need of help or advice, someone to go out with, someone you share stuff in common with etc etc just because you don't like the state of their house is beyond me. Surely you distance yourself from people that are rude, self-obsessed, nasty, untrustworthy...the usual things, not because of their house. Like...just don't go in it? Make excuses, not end a friendship

I'm not going to make excuses and lie to her am I? It's better if we're distanced to be honest...

You dont need to lie..if shes a friend and she invites you round..just say 'no because your house is minging'

Maybe she was just having a bad week or something and couldnt be arsed to do housework. Might not always be like that

I would not tell her, that's just horrible. She doesn't seem to care anyway, she hasn't called me or anything since it happened so it must not bother her either.

No, you could tell that her house was disgusting. It wasn't a case of not doing housework.

No its not, you could say it in a nicer way but its a good thing to tell people things like that IMO. I had to tell a friend she stank of BO once, as everyone was talking about her behind her back. Was a horrible convo but it helped in the long run.

You don't have to lie just drop into the conversation...

"Oh I can't go out today I'm cleaning my bathroom with strong bleach and other products. I can't stand a dirty bath can you?"
