some pretty good performances
but most the songs surprised me
and i thought they'd choose more iconic well known songs like
Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal ,Bad or even Beat It
i expected Ben to sing 1 of those or even Dirty diana
and i thought somebody would do startin somthin
and im surprised stevi didn't sing i want to break free
and i thought somebody would sing we will rock you

None of them could of done the dance sections those songs require. The stage wouldn't allow for Smooth Criminal either (unless they did a less intense lean).
Also, Billie Jean has a part of the song that is just instrumental which is then when the moonwalk takes place. The judges would of complained about copying it I assume. They could of taken that out I guess, but it would of been a bit weird. I think they were better off avoiding those songs.

but they dont have to do the whole dance performance
its not the west end theatre . and in previous xfactor years we have had billie jean and dirty diana and there was no problems
and as we know this year contestants have done their own spin and different versions of well known songs
so i think they could of done those songs
i wasn't expected the least popular songs

Dirty Diana doesn't have a required dancing part. Those spins in the past haven't been all that great really. Aiden Grimshaw singing Thriller was absolutely woeful beyond belief. Billie Jean was done with a twist by Amelia Lily, I forgot that. You make a good point there. It's not really a song requiring dance so, yeah, it could of been done.

However the likes of Beat It and Smooth Criminal really are nothing without the dance parts. There are some songs that should just never be touched, though. Thriller has never been done properly for example.

I think the acts were far better off doing the MJ songs they did thinking about it. MJ's slower songs are mainly easier to do. Only The Young did the only up tempo MJ song and destroyed it.
