I've had it three times this year though My doctor told me usually it's only if you've had tonsillitis at least five times a year but because my records bad he said I met NHS criteria I really don't know it's stressing me out too much

I get tonsillitis multiple times a year and I'm holding off having them removed to be honest. My family have had a history of having tonsillitis multiple times a year in their younger years (16-25 years old) and then it fading away into their 30s. I'm hoping the same thing is happening to me, as I never had tonsillitis up to the age of 18.

I wouldn't get them removed unless it's very severe with each case.

Have you tried taking co-codamol to ease the pain? That works wonders for me (although it has made me feel high sometimes).

The same happened to me too, I got it loads in my 20s then it tailed off, warm drinks and strepsils should keep them eased whilst your antibiotics kick in. It's up to you if you would rather have them out do it, your throat might be sore for a week or two but you'll be used to that I guess?

Thanks both of you for your help I'll keep considering it in the mean time I'll do what you said I've got a bag stuffed full of covonia, strepsils and paracetamol I'll take some cocodamol later before I eat my tea which is a bowl of soup (the only thing I can just about swallow) I'll make warm drinks as well

The older you are the more painful the operation is I believe but i suppose it depends how poorly you are when you have tonsillitis. It may be worth riding it out and seeing if it eases the older you get or taking the plunge and enduring the discomfort for a couple of weeks.

For an adult, absolute bloody agony for around two weeks afterwards. I've had 5 kids and believe me I'd rather give birth even with stitches.
