You are right.
That is how he meant it, he was not saying it was like he had aids but that he could feel like someone with it in the 80s as to the being ostracised bit.
He was not in any way demeaning aids.

I am a Perez fan and I don't love everything he does or say. But does that apply to the Hopkins fans who defend her when she says those awful things about kids with ADHD?

Perez is getting the Perez show back on the road. Four more days, the witches are one down, KH is looking jaded, and Calum and Kav seem to have even less to offer than before. The winner will be either Cheggers, KP or Perez. I've been supporting Perez all along, but any of these three as winners will get me cheering.
