"Stays" independent? It's a bit late for that, the BBC is constantly showing political bias. As a couple of examples, during the Independence referrendum, they were (very) heavily "pro-Union", including BBC Scotland. Another example; they are always heavily pro-Royal.

This bias is present in their news reporting and factualy programmes, and also frequently spills over into BBC-produced fiction (EastEnders, Doctor Who, etc.).
