No it's not genuine emotion....its attention seeking drama. That's why he is so bitter and vitriolic with Janice.....she's got it to perfection and it's really winding him up. What's more his beloved 'best mate' in there loves her for it and he can't cope....hence the over the top name calling...

....and then Jenna's telling him James's relationship with him is fake...no wonder he exploded.
