It was supposed to be John and Gemma to jail. At least John takes part in all the tasks. Gemma does not.

Surely BB would have preferred them both in Jail though, so that bridges could be bulit and Gemma not being evicted, but this only serves to have the opposite effect and made Gemma look worse than ever and more likely she will be evicted now. So maybe they had no option but to come up with the bail excuse.
