But in countries like the UK noone is allowed to carry a gun, so we're effectively a 'gun free zone', and yet our gun-related crimes aren't as bad as some other places where civilians are allowed to carry guns, so that suggests to me that Venezuela's murder problem, and the country being in collapse, isn't caused by, and wouldn't be solved by, getting rid of gun free zones. It's a difficult one because it's hard to deny that criminals might view gun free zones as 'advertisements', but at the same time I think that the argument of 'if criminals are going to carry guns then everyone should be able to', and legislating based on that, is never going to bring about any long term changes, which is probably the aim of this. If the only two options are 'gun free zones' or 'allow everyone to have a gun' then personally I don't think gun free zones are a bad idea.
