Sharon Osbourne reduced an X Factor contestant to tears by suggesting that she looked like a prostitute.

The 54-year-old judge was horrified by the performance of an auditionee called Rachel, who sung her own version of the sexually suggestive song Sugar Walls.

Invited to comment on the performance, Sharon asked: "What on earth was that? Are you a streetwalker?"

Rachel then ran from the audition room in tears and had to be consoled by fellow contestants.

One hopeful told the Daily Star: "Normally Sharon's seen as mumsy and nice. So for her to say this is a bit out of character. Maybe she's trying to up the ante."
