What relevance should there be as to that for anyone who is and may be now joining this.
The very word permitted as if it should be seen as a privilege is really shockingly patronising.

National service as in conscription was done away with too in the early sixties.

I'm 20, so I'm presuming it wouldn't apply to me anyway, but as a life long anxiety sufferer, I can tell you now that if national service was introduced and I was in the age bracket for it, I'd rather take my life than do it.

However I do think in college there should be something like 15 hours a year doing community service, so working for a charity or picking up litter or something good for the community
