It's Channel 4/5 who own the archive to their respective versions iirc, so it would be entirely up to them.

You can search for some of the archive here, but I think you have to pay to get the files (in fact, I think you have to work for a production company to get your account approved).

Blu-ray writers are your best friend. Bluray XL supports 100G. Go M-disc if you can, will last a lot longer.
