To clarify, homophobia is more akin to racism than to a fear of spiders. Although a fear of the unknown is thought to be a factor of people's perceived hatred.
Sorry, your, and others', abuse of the English language is not my problem.

Homophobia means "fear of gay people." That is what it means. If you want a word that means hatred of gay people then you need to make up another one.

It doesn't just mean that which is why luvjustins post should have been enough of an explanation.

So you post a definition whose first few words are "Irrational fear of"

Did you miss 'or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals'

So it doesn't just mean irrational fear of.

Then it has been abused.

If the word "arachnophobia" suddenly had it's definition changed to "Irrational fear of spiders or not liking them very much or thinking they are a bit mean" then I would feel the same.

Claiming to be ignorant of the fact that some words/meanings evolve/change is no defence sorry.

So now you know that it has a few definitions.

No defence? Just who is on trial here?

If people are dumb enough to use a word ending with "Phobia" to mean "prejudice against" then that is up to them. I won't recognise the word in that context. To me it means fear of gays.

Sorry about that.
