On my 21st birthday nobody in my family acknowledged it even though there was people at home. I baked myself a tiny cake so my boyfriend could sing happy birthday over Skype but my mother and niece and nephew ate it while I was upstairs in my room on my own. All I wanted was just acknowledgement from people I cared about.

I've had nice birthdays since then though. I had my first real cake with candles last year.

...I never really had a worst birthday as such..I've only ever had one proper birthday party because even as a child, being the focus of attention is something I couldn't bear...anyway I had this one proper party with a dozen or so people invited../I was maybe around 12yrs old/there about...and I was so nervous that I ate most of the Dairylea slices before anyone arrived..(alcohol wasn't an option at that age, so eating myself to death seemed like the thing..)...and then was a non attendant at the bash because I was so ill....
