Similar to that needed to access the States
![]() Travel Information and Authorisation System Brussels, 16 November 2016 "We need to know who is crossing our borders. By November, we will propose an automated system to determine who will be allowed to travel to Europe. This way we will know who is travelling to Europe before they even get here." – President Jean-Claude Juncker, 2016 State of the Union Address The Commission is today proposing to establish a European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) to strengthen security checks on visa-free travellers. This follows the announcement in September by President Juncker in his 2016 State of the Union address, and is a first deliverable of the priorities for action identified in the Bratislava Roadmap. The ETIAS will gather information on all those travelling visa-free to the European Union to allow for advance irregular migration and security checks. This will contribute to a more efficient management of the EU's external borders and improve internal security, whilst at the same time facilitating legal travel across Schengen borders. First Vice-President Frans Timmermans said: "Securing our borders and protecting our citizens is our first priority. ETIAS will close an information gap by cross-checking visa exempt applicants' information against all our other systems. At the same time, the future ETIAS will be easy, quick, cheap and effective." Migration and Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said: "ETIAS is the missing link in our border management, connecting the dots with our migration and security policies and enhancing Schengen entry for at least 95% of visa-free travellers. Europe's openness does not come at the cost of its security." Last edited by Cherie; 16-11-2016 at 05:49 PM. |

A sensible decision. It's about time they strengthened border security accross Europe. The better Europes security is the safer it is for us and hopefully it will protect them and us better against terrorist attacks. Finally some common sense from Juncker.

When you check in for your flight online, you pass through the automated barriers and get a cursory passport check by a member of the cabin crew, on arrival unless it's the States where you are grilled and fingerprint checked, you get another cursory facial check by passport control, this will give a more in depth check so it can only be a good thing? and it won't not help? I assume they will bring in the fingerprinting part of the Esta as part of the process as well

The EU doesn't have border management. It was their not so bright idea to do away with border security and checks.

Human Rights, Schluman Rights, Blueman Rights.
I would GLADLY allow the 'State' to photograph and classify every micro-fold on my puckered anus, if it could help prevent; A) One totally emotionally devastated Mother or Father sobbing their broken hearts out as their son/daughter's coffin is lowered into that damp, dark earth in some foreboding cemetery because they were blown up or were mercilessly shot down - executed in cold blood whilst defenceless by evil insane terrorists. You know - those very REAL humans who once lived, laughed, cried, and had LIVES. The ones who their parents fed and changed nappies for, nursed and loved them as they grew into mischievous little stumbling toddlers. The ones who they helped through the troubled teenage years and then had so much pride in as they started out on what they naturally presumed would be the LONG journey of life. B) The heartbroken task of some young parent, having to try to explain to their tiny innocent little children just WHY 'Mommy' or 'Daddy' is NEVER going to be with them anymore. You know, those flesh and blood ordinary Mommies or Daddy's who simply set out to go to the Mall or to work like they did every other ordinary, uneventful, mundane day - only this day was NONE of those things, because THIS day was THE day, when evil, insane terrorists full of irrational hatred, decided to explode bombs or go on a killing spree against ordinary, innocent civilians who were at the mall, the restaurant, or merely going about their daily business. BEHIND the headlines of EVERY terrorist attack. Behind the cold prejudice of typed statistics of THIS many dead, THAT many injured, are REAL once-living, breathing ordinary human beings - SOMEONE'S child, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Cousin, Husband, Wife, Boyfriend, Girlfriend, or just simply FRIEND. WHAT OF THEIR FECKING 'HUMAN RIGHTS'? The GREATEST 'Human Right' of all? The RIGHT TO LIFE. If fingerprinting, retina scans, Identity Cards or any other measure HELPS to prevent just ONE terrorist attack and thereby saves just ONE innocent human life, then I say - Bring It On.

And ETIAS will be fool proof?
What is the point of these electronic passports then, couldn't these be linked to this info sharing networks?
