Default Staples UK to Close Stores and move online

http://news.sky.com/story/staples-sa...om-uk-10660286

[The struggling UK arm
of the American firm,
which employs 1,100 staff
across 106 stores,
has been bought for
a "nominal sum".]

This has been on the cards
for some time.

Most business shoppers
that go to a store also get delivered
so its a shame as in the store
you can test things before
buying.
Like Funky New office chairs
Spoiler:

Hilco bought it from the USA Division
for a pound.

Store is still doing well in other countries, where Amazon also exists, this is just a UK based problem. Soz for making an appropriate conclusion.

Staples was successful for the duration that they were because of the convenience (that's why they could charge so much smh) and then they shut some stores and they're wondering why less people are going to them and now they're shutting all of them when Amazon is there? It's going to be dead. RIP

Yeah this seemed an inevitability for a long time, they're not remotely convenient enough since the only stores of theirs I ever see are way out on industrial estates. Who'd go that length for a wad of envelopes?

Not surprising, they aren't ever going to compete with Ryman or cheaper alternatives like Wilko etc anymore.

Don't expect any logic from big companies . The bookmaker's current situation is ridiculous - for over a year they've incentivised shop staff to sign customers up for online accounts, specifically targetting Football customers on a Saturday as a major focus. And now they're like "Umm why are you getting less turnover and fewer customers on a Saturday? ". I don't think companies actually understand that by moving customers online, they don't magically start selling more of their product... the same money is being spent! Just in a different place!

I was in a Staples here in the US recently... they're like ghost towns. Not sure who shops there. I almost took a job there many years back... decided not to because I love to work a busy shop and would be bored to tears...
