Yes I think so, the person getting the money can then buy what they want, I mean this year both my parents gave me money and I went and bought what I needed or wanted and gave them the stuff I bought. It better because they dont have to be worried what they get will be something I dont want. I know what I am getting, but I dont care, I am getting stuff I need/Want. I do the same to family members/friends, I either give them money to buy what they want or ask them what the want and I buy it. I dont really want to buy something that they dont want.

We have a budget for our boys..give them two thirds of the cash which they buy what they want and I wrap it up...the other third I buy them a couple of surprise gifts.
Otherwise you end up having to spend the New Year taking things back and giving them the cash anyway...

that is what my mum does, we have a budget and half of its cash so i can buy games because she has no idea what i like or clothes and the other half is presents she buys. If i don’t spend all of it, i get the rest in a card that goes in my savings.
