Default Huntley takes drugs overdose for third time

http://www.guardian.co.uk/

Soham murderer Ian Huntley was admitted to hospital last night after overdosing with prescription medication, despite being on suicide watch.
Huntley, 33, convicted of killing schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, alerted staff at the Wakefield high security prison after taking the medication, the prison service said.

Officers found him while still conscious and took him to an undisclosed hospital. Late last night he was allowed to return to prison. A prison service spokesman, said: "We can confirm that Ian Huntley was treated in hospital for a suspected overdose. We will be investigating events surrounding this incident."

Article continues

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is the third such incident involving Huntley, and will raise questions about security at the West Yorkshire prison.
In September 2006 prison staff found him unconscious in his cell in the early hours of the morning, again of a suspected drugs overdose. He had recently been taken off a full suicide watch.

In June 2003, he apparently tried to take his life while on remand in Woodhill prison near Milton Keynes; the former school caretaker was subsequently convicted of murder and is serving a minimum 40-year sentence.

The prison service refused to say what type of drugs Huntley had taken or whether he was receiving prescription medication. Mark Leech, editor of the Prisons Handbook, said it was not uncommon for inmates to trade medication.

Mr Leech said: "This is a dreadful story for the prison service and a huge embarrassment for them, particularly as Huntley is the highest possible security category. It is going to require some heads to be banged together to sort this out."

i guess this story just shows how years in prison can be worse than a death sentance if you asked ian to choose hed choose death over the lengthy torture of a long prison sentance - his life is over anyroads

Prison for people like Ian Huntley is better than they deserve. He killed to innocent schoolgirls and I personally would prefer him to be killed for what he did. Those two innocent children deserved to have a wonderful life ahead of them and instead - it was taken away. So he is trying to commit suicide? Well I could think of spending tax-payers money on something much better than a murderer like Ian Huntley.

I just don't have the time or care for people like him, sorry its just how I feel and the word "disgust" comes to mind!

I know. I mean why doesn't he just accept that he's got a double life sentence to serve?

This is his third attempt.

He deserves everything he gets, suicide is too good for him. Its the easy way out and he needs to rot in hell and some more.

He took two innocents lives and needs to suffer till the day he dies.....of old age.

His life should be in jail to try and compensate for the horrid heinous crime that he did

You could say "let him die", but that's the easy way out for him. I certainly don't mind part of my taxes going towards making him suffer. He deserves it for what he did. Some of you may think that sounds cold, because he obviously has something wrong with him, and the world would be a better place without people like him, but he knew what he did was wrong. And because of that, he has to be punished.

Thats not cold at all B, its what he deserves..... to rot and know the pain he caused other.

To be given the chance to end his life is just wrong.

Just some people may have a different view Kiz, and think that people like him have some kind of malfunction. The fact is he knew what he was doing was wrong. His actions were unforgivable and yes he deserves to rot his life away in prison imo.

malfuntion or not..... people who attempt to take lives or do so need to suffer.

I know that people suffer from mental issues but when those issues cross over to harm and take lives then no amount of support and comfort can ever take it back.

Ill or not..... they must pay the price

Some people talk of rehabilitation. I don't think you can rehabilitate someone like that. People like that should never be freed and left to live the rest of their days in containment. They should have to live with the pain of what they have done.

In most cases it doesnt work, and it still leave the fact that the crime has taken place.

I am in total agreement with you that if a life is taken then a life sentance should be given and they should serve their time in jail.

I think they should let him kill himself he deserves everything he gets for killing those two innocent little girls . This is his third attempt and yet they still catch him at it and save his life he doesnt deserve to live though and live on our taxes he should die a slow painful death and realise what he did was very wrong. I dont care about if he is mentally ill he knew what he was doing when he killed those two girls so he cant be that mentally unstable.

I agree with you.

I hope he does it again, and this time I hope he dies! He doesn't deserve to breath the same air as the rest of us.

He should suffer everyday in jail for ending those girls life, ending his life is a option he shouldn't be given, he should stay in jail till he dies of old age.

He should have to suffer with the guilt of what he did. Let him rot.

There is no way he will get prole.

He needs to rot and suffer

He should be allowed the easy route out of taking his life. He needs to be in jail for the rest of his life staring at the same walls day in day out. Fearing for his life from the other inmates because they all know what he has done and that his is scum

i know ppl want him to suffer. but i reackon they should bring back the death penalty. or perhapes just slip somthing in his evening meal and kill him off. cos fink about how much money he uses up by just being there.

it makes me sick to fink that my wages are paying for him to have somthing to eat and just live.

i dont want him out of prison either where would they place him anyroads. sooner or later he'd get found and theyd have to move him again. keep him in prison or let him die is the best way but they cant kill him so tax payers money has to keep him there and alive and that is annoying for some but better for iothers but prison for him seems worse than the thought of death so keeping him alive is better really, he must be getting bullied in prison and living in a prison of hell, hahahaha rot and suffer yes

he ended holly & jessicas life and they had a good one

I think that they do the right thing each time they stop him from killing himself. I really feel strongly that he should be made to rot in jail for his crimes rather than the escape of death.

He is obviously very unhappy in jail and I am glad that he is. As a parent I would hate to think he was able to end his misery while mine had to go on forever. Let him suffer and rot in jail is what I say.

He’s done the worst thing possible by killing the two girls, and no matter what he does it won’t undo that or solve anything. And you still can’t be sure whether he truly regrets what he’s done or simply wants to end his life for convenience’s sake. If the death penalty was still about, this would be a prime example where nobody would argue for it to be used. But since there isn’t, he’s wasting his time trying to kill himself constantly.

By law, that will not be allowed to happen, and since there is no death penalty anymore it would be better for him to suffer or at least try to repent rather than kill himself. It’s something that doesn’t seem to exist anymore, but either way I do agree with him staying in there until he dies of natural causes.
