Everytime the girl who faced the "life threatening illness" is introduced, they mention the fact she faced a life threatening illness. Plus, that combined with the fact she's always crying = I feel as though she isn't in there based on pure talent, but people feeling sorry for her.

People who haven't faced life threatening conditions can't help that can they?
And it saddens me to think some people may lose out on their dreams, because lots of nice people around the country voted for the girl who's been hard done by.

If you genuinely only like people for their talent and personality, then you're free to like them. If just the smallest part of you likes them because you think "they deserve a break" then that's not fair on people who've been lucky enough not to face any traumatic experiences in their lives.
