I’d love to be a fly on the wall when they’re negotiating the renewal of the contract. Look at the ratings alone and there’s no coming back, BB is dead. But look at the response to this series and it’s incredible, reports from the bbc and telegraph even praising it. I really can’t tell where it’ll go

It would probabaly all come down to money
If people are saying they are loving it yet not voting any more that they did for series they hated then the praise doesn't really mean much

The problem with a show like BB though is that every series is different. We all give Channel 5 a hard time, but realistically the people behind it want every series to succeed and every series the casting has to be not only right but lucky. It takes one bad series for everything to go down the ****ter again. Look at the differences between BB17 and 18 - one was the second most watched behind BB14 and the other was by far the least watched ever. I think it's beyond doubt this is the final year of BB. The civilian version would need a miracle to pick itself up after last year's disaster. We had Fight Night 3 and that didn't even pick the ratings up. CBB is a slightly different beast because celebrities just feel more relevant at the moment. Only the die hards watch the civilian version. It's the most expensive show Channel 5 has probably ever had and it sometimes does no better, if not worse, than other shows that cost a quarter to make and screen. A series as calm as this one wouldn't wash for 3 months. I'm sure Channel 5 would love to just have the Celeb version on twice a year and lose civilian but I don't think the contract allows for it. With not only the show but the house up for contract renewal this year, it does seem like a sort of natural time to end it, unless they have major plans going forward.

This...

Last Monday got 1.57m (so only 70k up on last night), Tuesday got 1.64m, by Thursday it got 1.72m and then 1.77m for Friday.

So I hope tonight it can be back to 1.6m. I think 1.6m for the rest of the series would be OK, as that would give an official of around 2.1m. But I think it';s losing it's momentum. As much as i am enjoying, it needs a big event to boost it back up top 1.7m+

So far we have had 1.4m for Sunday and 1.5m for Monday, so another climb wiill be welcome, but i think it will hold in the 1.4m range for the rest, even though I hope it could be a good 300k higher.

3 years ago the same episode got 3 million overnight, so since then it’s halved.. and that’s not a very long time considering the overall 40+ series of CBB and BBUK we’ve been through

But then again those series launched with like 3.8m lol

This series launched with 2.4m official. It's kind of obvious it wouldn't ever reach 2m+ officials daily unless it had the best ever launch retention of any BB ever.

People are doubting the ratiings, sure it's not good, but ,maybe we should look into retention. It premiered with 2.07m overnights and is averaging out around 1.6m overnight, what is the retention over the other serries? Retention of launch to the series average of other series haven't been any better has it?

CBB15 for example overnight launch was 3.27m, series average was 2.62m overnight. CBB17 premiered to 2.80m. average was 2.26m. CBB19 averaged at 2.32m overnight, series average was 1.78m.

I mean, if we are to piut the series down, at least look at retention, did we expect it to hold more of it's audience than any other series? Why?

The series average of 1.6mish it is getting vs 2.07m launch rating is probably a similar retention to those series i mentioned...

It’ll be about 1.5m with +1 which sucks as it was getting 1.77 last week.

seriously though: is there any reason for C5 to keep BB/CBB at this point? It doesn't seem to rate much better than their other shows anymore and I imagine it's much more expensive to make.

It is the highest rated thing on C5 at the moment though, so why would they cancel it? The first 7 officials made up the entire Top 10 as always, so why would they? It's expensive but it's daily 2m+ official ratings.

Who else is getting that?

It's not allways 2M+ though is it as we've seen from the first set of officials when it should be for a January cbb. I do agree with you that it is their most constant and reliable show to hit that Mark but it's becoming very hard to even hit 2 million anymore.

The fact channel 5 pay so much for the show and are struggling to make a profit with it surely cost comes first?

The comments from people running the channel over th last 12 months or so have also been firm that they don't want bb to dominate the channel anymore and I get the impression they want rid of it.

Personally I would love it to go to itv2...far less pressure for ratings and a brand new start however given that channels audience is a lot younger we could be seeing bb going back to its cheesier days.

In a perfect world it would be put to rest for a few years and come back on channel 4 for its 20th anniversary as a one off to make it special and see how it goes from there.
