Rooney wants to strike a new deal

Quote:
Wayne Rooney will seek assurances from Sir Alex Ferguson over his role with Manchester United before committing to a new contract at Old Trafford this summer.

Negotiations over whether to extend the England forward’s £250,000-a-week deal will begin in the next few weeks amid huge uncertainty over Rooney’s future.

His main concern is likely to be where he will play now Robin van Persie has established himself as the club’s first-choice striker.

England’s leading striker has played in midfield recently and that is bound to raise concerns with the World Cup just over a year away and qualification far from certain.

As well as dropping Rooney to the bench for the Champions League clash with Real Madrid in March, Ferguson substituted him for the fourth time in five games on Sunday at Arsenal — a scenario that would have been unthinkable not so long ago.

There is little doubt Rooney would prefer to stay, but it would be understandable if the 27-year-old wants to be sure he is making the right move as he negotiates the last big contract of his career.

United, for their part, will also seek a firm commitment from Rooney as they consider whether to cash in on a player who has two years left on his contract or to offer him another deal.

I hope so. Wayne wants to stay and he is still one of our best players IMO, he is versatile and he has not had his best season but still had a very good enough contribution overall and the Summer rest will revitalise him and inspire him to do better next season with competition for places becoming even more important at United.

As long as he doesn't demand more cash, if so, he can sling his hook.

Quote:
Colombian legend Faustino Asprilla has revealed that he has told compatriot Radamel Falcao to sign for Manchester United.

The 27-year-old Atletico Madrid striker has been the subject of intense transfer speculation with Chelsea and Manchester City amongst a number of clubs interested.

But former Newcastle forward Asprilla believes the £46million-rated star should head to Old Trafford this summer if he wants to regularly challenge for trophies.

Asprilla said: ‘We were talking and he asked me my opinion on who he should join. He knows that every big club in the world wants him. He is not a player motivated by money - what he wants is somewhere that his family will be happy and where he will have success.

'With teams like Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City they have good times then they have bad times - that is why I told him he must choose Manchester United. Every season they are challenging - and if he wants success that is where I have told him to go.

‘Also they don't have all the behaviour away from the field - with changing coaches every season. They are steady in all that they do - and a well run club at every level. He is a real family guy - and Radamel will appreciate that and the way that Sir Alex Ferguson protects his players like family.'

Asprilla also believes Falcao will be the only player ever to play in the Barclays Premier League who can rival the finishing ability of Alan Shearer.

‘It is difficult for me to explain how good he is - he is the best finisher in the world. The only striker who has played in The Premiership who is on his finishing level is Alan Shearer. If he signs for Manchester United - he would be their missing piece in The Champions League. Robin Van Persie and Radamel would be unstoppable.’

Interesting. The Lewandowski rumours could be a smokescreen, although United were interested in RL before we signed Van Persie.

man utd should bomb rooney or offer him about £100,000 less
the man isnt quick enough to score many goals now......theres a lot of strikers who will score more, starting with hernandez for starters. kagawa needs to be used more, as does nani

then go spend all that moola on a schweinsteiger, schneider, robben, bale, type midfielder i.e. world class or if money is tight maybe pick up a one of the swans midfielders, nathan dyer or routledge, elsewhere maybe a gotze , fellani, theres plenty of young brazillian midfielders in the market too.....fergie needs to crack the whip on his football scouts.......even if man utd pay less than man city chelsea , theres still more glory and silverware playing for the red devils

Looking for better wingers than Dyer and Routledge tbh. If we want to get close to Bayern, we need top top players. I dread to think what they'd of done to our midfield.

Sir Alex Ferguson not concerned at Danny Welbeck's lack of goals

Quote:
• United striker has scored just twice for club this season
• Manager admits variety of roles not helped his tally

Sir Alex Ferguson insists he is not concerned at Danny Welbeck's paltry goals return for Manchester United this season. Welbeck has scored just twice for the champions and only once in the Premier League.

"Last year he had 12 goals, this year he's only got two, so that's a big drop," Ferguson told Inside United. "But that drop doesn't concern us because he still applies himself really well and still looks to score, still looks to get a chance and with that kind of courage he will eventually become a regular goalscorer."

The manager said the use of Welbeck in a variety of roles, including shutting down Xabi Alonso in the Champions League against Real Madrid, has not helped the 22-year-old's goal tally.

"Maybe he doesn't appreciate us moving him around in various positions and we've maybe overused that because he is young," Ferguson said. "But his value to the club is there because I know he can do a job for me in any of those positions.

"It's a fantastic asset when you have a player who is as adaptable as that. But I think he will find his role through the middle once he gets that maturity and gets into a more consistent way of scoring."

Danny has the talent and potential, so he will continue to develop and I am confident he will work on finishing and will want to score more goals.

Cole targets trophy

Quote:
Larnell Cole fired Manchester United into the Barclays Under-21 Premier League semi-finals before targeting another trophy this term.

Cole was an integral part of last season's successful Reserves side and his early effort against West Brom at Old Trafford ensures Warren Joyce's side are safely through to the last-four of the new competition.

There were 14 passes in the build-up to the winner with Cole touching Jesse Lingard's cross into the net from close range. Although only his second league goal of the campaign, it was his eighth overall which puts him level with Federico Macheda at the top of the scoring charts.

"It's a lot better when you come to a place like this," he told MUTV. "Obviously, you want to play here all the time and, when you get the chance, you want to do well.

"It's good that we've got something to look forward to [the semi-finals] and we got the win but it was a tough game.

"I'll take any goal. It was a good team move and I was happy to score. We do a lot of that, one-two passing in training and it's good when it comes off in the games.

"Any time you get to play here, it's great. We want to win the league again and try and push to get a place in the first team. Playing in the big stadiums like this is the main aim."

Good player with the down to earth attitude to match. I hope the young lads continue to improve and that some of them make that vital breakthrough into the first team at some stage.

Manchester United's vice-chairman does not expect a "major retooling" of the squad this summer.

United have announced record turnover results for the financial year's third quarter, and the balance sheet does not include the recent deal with AON for naming rights to the club's training ground.

In the wake of last week's Premier League title success Sir Alex Ferguson said he had spent "three or four months" identifying possible summer targets.

But executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is predicting a quiet close season at Old Trafford.

He said: "I wouldn't expect there to be a major retooling of the squad. There is incredible depth. We could put two first teams out with 11 internationals in each.

"It has been a phenomenal season. We are a long way ahead in the Premier League and whilst I wouldn't describe the way we got knocked out of the Champions League as luck things could have gone differently in that game.

"We have a young squad and each of those are a year older. We are very comfortable with make up of team and squad."

Not so bad as those pair contribute. All this Hunchback Marlo Stanfield does is take £130k a week whilst failing to beat a man.

Those were only rumours about the wages like the Rooney ones where some people actually thought United were paying him the whole £250,000 a week when his wages are about between £130-160,000 from United and the rest is from Rooney's personal sponsors which makes the 250 k total.

Haven't seen anywhere say anything other than £130k when they did say differently about Rooney's wages.

Good to hear. Time for Malcolm to get his cheque book out this summer. Big spending is needed.

The papers came up with stupid speculation not long after the whole saga when Rooney did a U-turn, he signed the original contract which United offered to him before so there were no improved terms or more money hence the £130,000 figure being rumoured to be more right.

I know the Glazers divide opinion, i'm not their biggest fan but I do like how low key they are and actually let SAF get on with his job and do not interfere with football stuff.

They actually conduct themselves more better than the likes of Chelsea's twat of an owner.

SAF will certainly want to make our squad stronger and I imagine he already has definite targets lined up already and United will pounce soon as the season is over as we like to get things done early!

I meant Ashley Young being on £130k. Haven't seen it stated anything but that anywhere else.

Don't like the debt they saddled us with but the denying Fergie of cash that a lot have said before is total BS, imo. Many reasons.

This summer though, with Bayern like they are, our midfield needs serious investment.
