Meh, semantics. How many (older) people say they're going to "tape" something when using the telly box? It's obvious what he meant, and he's old.

I don't agree. Him implying she took a tape recorder means that an interaction of this nature was pre-planned. Whereas using the record function on a phone you have on you doesn't. He works in the media, he's no doddering old fool who doesn't understand technology. He's trying to force intent

No one uses a Tape recorder these days…he was simply implying she recorded it and in this day and age it’s pretty obvious he is referring to recording it on her phone….

Then why say she had a tape recorder on her and therefore she pre-planned it? They were his words. I hazard that 95% of the people there had phones with recording capabilities. They had not taken them with intent....so why had this women?

There is actually no evidence that is was recorded, the "transcript" only has been released and from what I can gather that is Ngozi's recollection of the conversation. I would hazard if there was a recording it would be out there now. He's pushing a taped conversation that no-one knows exists as proof of intent to cause this row. It's lazy journalism and baiting

Again, no proof that it was recorded but it takes less than a second to hit record....maybe she was recording the whole affair for prosperity, maybe she hit record when the conversation turned to where she is from. I don't know. Neither do you, neither does Farage. Its proof of nothing

The queen was no fool, if this woman was racist she wouldn’t of been part of the queens inner circle for 60 years.

So you are admitting racism exists in the U.K. (which is what this whole discussion’s about, not how you think it is in India or South Africa). Good. That’s a start.

I’d stop here as you’re really not doing yourself any favours.

@ sheriff, I’m aware (and, yes, good and bad exists in every race) but I’m struggling to see what that has to do with what we’re talking about.

It’s a reminder that some of the worlds population are scum regardless of skin colour and they are still torturing and murdering their own.

You will never see the end of racism

Meaning what exactly when lots of decent people with racism-awareness (probably more than you know) have commented in this thread?

what i don't understand is what the charity worker thinks she can achieve from it. It's a lady in her 80's that she has called out for not being in tune with the current times. It's a lone, isolated, old woman that she has targeted, which really isn't a good look no matter what side of the debate you are on.

If the objective is to call out old people who will be gone soon enough, i guess it's job done. If it's intending to affect the views of young people, they will be looking to their own grandparents and thinking they wouldn't want them vilified, so yeah, what's her objective

I don’t think Ngozi’s deliberately trying to vilify anyone but at the end of the day she had an experience that was quite painful to her and she wants to talk about it. Supposing she’s telling nothing but the non-biased truth (and of that I have little doubt) and this challenges (if not publicly weeds out) some of the prejudiced attitudes other people have at Buckingham Palace, I suppose that’ll be mission-accomplished. Some things really do need to be talked about and racism, merely alleged or not, is one of them. I don’t think it was her intention for an old lady to get the boot.

What did she think would happen ...I mean it’s pretty clear it wouldn’t be business as usual

I think she is quite happy painting the Royal family as racist, don’t you?

And just to be clear, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with appropriately/politely asking someone where they originate from (it can be the start of a really cool, interesting conversation and very-often is) but Hussey didn’t just ask a question with fair, respectful intentions. She was prying and prying until she got her form of confirmation that Marlene Fulani wasn’t British enough for her.
