Meghan’s ‘truth’ was rather, umm, shall we say, heavy on the dramatics and reminiscent of Diana’s early experiences in the ‘Firm’ as told in her tell all book - and which Meghan owned and read as a teenager according to a friend. (Which is why the ‘oh, I hardly knew a thing about the royals or Harry’ lines is iffy.) It’s like she played out Diana’s early Palace experiences as her excuse not to fit in and play on Harrry’s emotions, only this time around the Palace had learned from their mistakes, and were much more careful in their efforts to help her settle. I can’t see any way they were going to make the same errors that they made with Diana all over again.

Every account has been of how everyone involved went out of their way to accommodate Meghan and make her welcome.

A girl who reportedly had several Diana books on her bedroom bookshelf wasn’t as uninformed about the Royals as she let on….Her wide eyed innocence and apparent helplessness in the face of the big bad royals doesn’t ring quite true.
They took away her passport and driving license and kept her locked up in a dungeon, don't you know, so she couldn't get any help as it would look bad. Okayyy....

Their world was a million miles away from what Meghan was used to, but were they deliberately unhelpful or cruel? No way. Bottom line is, Meghan didn’t want to be helped, she had other plans. Imo.

...obviously we knew that our own media would be quite filled with it but so much internationally as well and really not great at all for the Royal family... Meghan being the American gal who came to the U.K. to be with her Prince and what she met at the royal palace was a very cold establishment of people ...and some of them seeming very focused on and concerned about the shade of her child’s skin tone...

Not only that but I don't think the Americans have that much interest in the Royals any more. Sure, they like to watch a bit of pomp and circumstance and have their picture took outside Buckingham Palace if they visit London but other than that, why would they care? Harry and Meghan to them are no more important than any other celeb living in LA.

...I think that they are a bit more of an interest now, Annie...(...I agree with Leon about the Super Bowl...)...I think pomp and circumstance is how it has been seen but Harry especially, has now given a ‘a behind the scenes’ glimpse that is entirely different from little old England pomp and circumstance etc...

This is probably the stupidest post in the entire thread, these ratings are excellent it’s more than the golden globes and the emmys (which aired last week) COMBINED

Saying it’s low just because the Super Bowl gains 100m viewers is like comparing the World Cup final to an episode of coronation street

I've largely avoided the topic because I cannot fathom how people spend so much of their time and ire directed at these people, so went into the interview last night pretty blindsided (I only watched the first half with just Meghan, haven't watched the rest with the pair of them yet) and I thought she came across as compassionate, calm, and pretty honest and likeable... she also possessed something that seems rare in the royal family: warmth.

I actually quite like Charles (for his environmental and charity work, anyway, don't really have an opinion on his personality) but the queen herself is just... without need for explanation. Very stiff, cold, whatever... to expect much vitality out of a person her age might seem asking too much but she's always been the same in my 30 years of life

I think the entire subject is just an excuse for people to exorcise their demons and throw all of their personal problems at a fictional one they've created from appearing on the telly and in the press. It is... beyond desperation, the levels to which trolls (not just on here, but on here as well) will sink to bait a reaction, invade privacy, claim ownership over people's personal lives, invent conspiracy, assert falsehoods, and just show off their complete lack of empathy. It's a disease.

The British identity is in crisis; stuck between archaic tradition and embracing modernity. Desperately seeking to isolate ourselves from Europe but at the same time asserting our influence and importance over the world. As a result it seems the public are split 50/50 (as is now the case with everything) regarding them... some clutching their pearls, expecting Meghan to vanish and never touch Our Beloved Prince And His Nan ever again, others expecting a reenactment of the end of Louis XVI. As always, the solution is probably somewhere down the middle, and in this case I'd highly recommend getting over it and ****ing ignoring them if they make you so irate.
