A virus so deadly that you need to do a daily test to see if you have it. I'd know if I had a virus without doing a test. If I needed a test to detect whether I had a virus or not, then it ain't much of a virus.

Apparently your understanding of what a virus looks like is painfully simplistic. You can carry and spread EBOLA - a virus that can kill 60%+ of people infected and makes you literally bleed out of your eyeballs - without knowing it. And you’re over here like “lol i’d know it in me bones if I had Covid”.

But we're talking about Covid. There are symptoms you apparently get when having Covid. So I'd know if I had those symptoms without needing a test.

you can be asymptomatic, and pass it on to someone vulnerable, but you already know this Alf. You already know so much about the virus and yet you continue to post rubbish. You ain't fooling me, I know it's intentional ... but it's a strange way you are getting your kicks is all i can say

This pandemic has made many forum members into medical experts. I'm still going by my medical knowledge I had from my entire life upto 2019. I missed the part when I was supposed to forget all that and change it.

COVID-19:
British tourists to be banned from France
amid rise in Omicron cases

[From Saturday morning, France is banning
travel to and from the UK without "compelling reasons".
Paris says the "compelling reasons"
do not include travel for tourism and business.

French nationals and their spouses
are exempt from the new rules.]

What I want to know is how the government can tell people testing positive at home have the new or old variant.

if you test positive at home on a lateral flow you should get a PCR test to confirm

my brother first noticed he had covid when he had an almighty hangover after being at the pub, he never gets hangovers normally so it was highly unusual. Sure enough he tested positive. They don't mention that in their list of symptoms

They can't, and they don't test every PCR-test for the variant either. It's a very involved process that takes lab time. They test a sample of positive tests in each area, get a percentage of the total, and then apply that as a proportion of the total as an estimate. It would be completely impossible to do such a detailed analysis on every positive test.

Also you're supposed to confirm your at-home LF test with a proper PCR test if it comes up positive... most people don't bother to register their LF result at all.

most people are sensible enough that if they test positive they will keep out the way of other people until they test negative again. So much of it is pure common sense.

Also on the point about how do they know what variant they have have .... they know the spread rate of delta and what the fluctuations are on a daily basis over the last few months. The infection rate rose by 20k yesterday alone, which is pretty indicative that the new variant is very much in play

If you're told that you need a chip put in your body to make living with Covid easier, would that be going too far for you or would you happily go along with it because you've been told it's for the common good?

depends what the chip would do

for instance some women have contraceptive implant in their arm that releases progestogen into the body

The chip would have all your data on it. Medical data, financial data ect. The government would control everything. Where you could go, what you spend and where you could spend it, no more physical money, it's all electronic and controlled. If you had a fine, it would be immediately taken from you. If you didn't comply with a government order, they will immediately come for you because your chip would have your location at all times.

Basically China.
