i think he is showing that putin doesnt have the power to exile him or shut wagner down. They are still recruiting at their offices. It's a pretty risky strategy though i would have thought

Vladimir Putin’s deputy commander of the Russian forces in Ukraine has not been seen in public for two weeks, fuelling rumours that the general had prior knowledge of Wagner’s aborted coup.

General Sergey Surovikin, nicknamed ‘General Armageddon’, reportedly missed his wife’s birthday party as the Kremlin remains tight-lipped on his whereabouts.

While no official confirmation of his arrest has been made, it is suspected that General Surovikin is being detained and interrogated over his failure to raise the alarm on Wagner’s plot, or may even have been killed.

US intelligence sources have confirmed to the New York Times that the general was aware of plans to oust Russia’s military leaders.

The Wagner mercenary group is no longer "participating in any significant capacity in support of combat operations in Ukraine", a Pentagon spokesperson has said.

It comes weeks after the group's 24-hour mutiny in Russia - a challenge to President Vladimir Putin's authority.

Wagner is thought to have helped Russia annex Crimea in 2014, and has fought some of its bloodiest recent battles.

It was instrumental in capturing the eastern city of Bakhmut for Russia.

Under the deal that ended the June rebellion, Wagner fighters were told they could join the regular Russian army or head to Belarus with their chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
