Gemma Merna has stated that she and new husband Ian Minton have no plans to start a family in the foreseeable future.

The Hollyoaks actress, who married Minton in May, told Reveal that she is "very busy" concentrating on her career.



"We're both very busy, we never stop, so we can't fit it in," she said. "But, when the time is right, and if we're blessed enough to have a child, then hopefully one day we will."

The couple recently launched a new multivitamin soft drink for diabetics, called Vitzer.

Merna, who plays Carmel McQueen, added: "We've not long got married, and our wedding was fantastic. We had some great friends and family who shared it with us as well.

"My onscreen family - Jennifer Metcalfe, Nicole Barber-Lane, Leah Hackett and Jorgie Porter - were my bridesmaids.

"I joined Hollyoaks when I was 23 and it was like the university experience for me.

"It's so intense filming 12 hours that you don't have much other life so you do become very close, and they become your family."

Rachel Shenton has revealed that people tell her she shares a likeness to Cheryl Cole.

Speaking to Reveal at the Inside Soap Awards, the Hollyoaks actress declared that she finds the comparison to the Girl's Aloud star "flattering".



Shenton, who plays Mitzeee on the Channel 4 teen soap, divulged: "I have been told a few times that I look like Cheryl Cole.

"I'm sure she hasn't got a clue who I am, but it is flattering. She's really hot, so it's great!"

Cole recently took an interest in Hollyoaks Later, the show's late-night spinoff, due to the fact her bandmate Kimberley Walsh's sister Amy appeared.

Shenton also played a part in the special week-long series, which was screened on E4 earlier this month.

The 24-year-old has declared her delight with her character's new looks since being jailed. Mitzeee was falsely accused of stabbing rival Mercedes McQueen.

"My character is going through a tough time and isn't wearing make-up at the moment and I love it," the soap star added.

"I get in to work, they whack a bit of under-eye cream on to make me look like I've had no sleep, so it takes 5 minutes. It's brilliant!"

Shenton confirmed last year that she prefers not to wear make-up off screen.

Hollyoaks star Emmett Scanlan has suggested that his character Brendan Brady needs to evolve following his recent dark storylines.

Brendan was recently at the centre of hard-hitting scenes in E4 spinoff Hollyoaks Later, which included the revelation that he was sexually abused by his father as a child.



Speaking in a new interview with the Daily Star, Scanlan continued to hint that Brendan's story is heading into its final chapters.

Scanlan commented: "I said to Emma Smithwick when she took over as show producer, 'Can we take him to a really dark place? I want to break boundaries'. She had already thought about that. She championed Brendan. She pumped blood back into him. What's going to happen in the last furlong is down to her.

"Brendan has reached a point now where there's no return. I think he's on his last legs. It's either become the man or get lost."

He continued: "Hollyoaks Later was the end of Brendan. You can't come back from that. I don't want to fall back into old patterns.

"It's time to Brendan to evolve, to sacrifice himself on the cross or to bow out."

Brendan will feature in even more dramatic scenes next week as twisted Walker follows through with his threats to target his loved ones.

Brendan is definitely leaving next year, inevitable really and Emmett J Scanlan is such a talented Actor that it is obvious he would want to do other things.

It is best for the character to go out on a high, a character like Brendan has a certain amount of shelf life before the storylines get too repetitive or the audience get bored and the three years have been great. It will be tough for the TPTB at Hollyoaks HQ to replace his character when it comes to casting the new villain or villainess!

I really do like Brendan, although I will always prefer Darren when it comes to overall characters, he is old school Hollyoaks after all.

I hope Cheryl is not leaving anytime soon, she is amazing and Bronagh is brilliant playing her, so underused at times too as she is one of the best Actresses on the show.
