Now various regimes who saw what happened during that time, or possibly Iran it self, will do what ever it takes to make sure Twitter is gone for good.

If I were a dictator, I would make sure it was taken down and kept down.
That's the biggest piece of poo I've ever heard in all my life!

Some of us don't even follow the Iran Election thing, actually, most don't.

I personally use twitter to talk to my friends, follow what my favourite band/idols are doing, and to to generally have a good time.

Some people, like you, clearly, don't like that!

People can communicate via the net in despotic countries WITHOUT twitter. Plenty of web apps that work well on phones are out there for these users who want to get words and images out of these countries. I think your making twitter seem lots more important than it is.
But those other applications do not reach a global scale like Twitter does.

Lets be real here, twitter is much larger than those other sites.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some Iranian government plan - although it seems like it wasn't.

But Twitter was used and is still used in Iran by the people who are protesting, its a scarce time over there so Twitter helps them get support and spread the word - Iran blocked Twitter numerous times and have tried to stop the protestors in Iran tweeting, but to no avail.

So I guess this could have been the governments last plan to stop Iranian's from tweeting the situation.

But like I said, it seems like it wasnt anything to do with Iran.

Nothing to do with how large the network of twitter is. Everything to do with "does it work or not". People for example in Iran who were getting shot and killed during the protests needed to get that info out to the world. They used web enabled mobile phones plus ANY app that worked... not just twitter. I doubt twitter would even be the first thing they'd use..So yeah "let's be real then".

The link isn't even from today, it's just a story about the Twitter update being postponed until after the Iran Elections. It's nothing about the "hacking" today and doesn't give explanation.

If you read it, they admit the US State department requested that they delay their maintenance cycle. They can bleat all they like about no doing it because the State department asked them, at the end of the day they did comply, making Twitter a legitimate military target by a government that sees America supporting it's greatest enemy in the region, Israel.
