Nooooo. Number 2 of all your great sporting moments and it was just a World Cup qualification match?! What about Redgrave, Ovett, Coe, Thompson? And that's just in athletics! Every nation has a few teams that they love to see beaten, that's what I'm trying to say.

Like, okay, I understand it must be terrible if you're part of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland because YOUR national teams are terrible, but honestly...it's so sad.

I support any home nation :\ why can't everyone else?

I understand for most it's probably just a joke, but I detect some genuine hatred of the English in some factions of this support. I guess it must be envy. We're the richest, most populous, most picturesque and important nation, after all...

Most picturesque? Are you mental? Have you actually been to Scotland Ireland or Wales??
Most important.. pah! Why is it the only country in the UK that doesn't seem to have any national identity (apart from notorious football fans) The Scots have our own national dress, our own national dress, our own national drink, our own national anthem and even our own language..

I'm don't want to get into an argument over this but I'm sorry, I can't/won't be supporting England.. It's not a hatred of all things England, I just can't bring myself to support your team

It's fun to support against your hated enemy - I also have an Argentina top straight from friend in Buenos Aires because I think ye'll make quarter-finals where Messi will play your poor defence

Germany have no ambitions to even make the 2nd stage - so my German pals tell me.

Engerland think they're gonna win so every TV advert tells me

Yes, but in comparison to all the other great sporting achievements it really shouldn't have featured that highly, you know? So many other moments that were just as fresh in people's memories (Redgrave). It's not a question of comparison anyway; just trying to illustrate the fact that you regard them as your old enemy and love to beat them, that's all.

It's only a poll.. I am sure if it was done again you would get different results.. Can you link me to this Poll? and People are obviously going to vote a footballing moment much higher then a rowing achievement by steve redgrave.. football is in the biggest sport in this country.. Rowing probably ain't even in the Top 20

The lake district, peak district, white cliffs of Dover, Devon countryside
and important in terms of population, contribution to the economy, land mass, etc.

As for the lack of identity - English? Really? Tudors, Stuarts, Chaucer, Shakespeare, St. George... they just appear less obvious because we don't harp on about being a separate glorious 'nation' like the underdogs do

Just settle on the idea that Ireland, Scotland and Wales hate your English team and will pray to their respective gods you lose...........or that English hooligan bevaviour gets you ejected

Not a difficult concept kiddo...........were Ireland in, I'd support them, not Engerland

Yes, but all I'm trying to identify here is the fact that football is a collective thing and each nation has certain teams they like to see lose, that's all. You shouldn't be condemning us for not supporting your team. That's football. I couldn't give a crap if you lot loved to see the Irish being beaten so I don't understand why you would care either.

When you wake up tonight and see a masked man standing over your bed with a sawn off shotgun just remember ...

... it wasn't Stu who sent the Cork branch of the Real IRA to the home of Shaun Collins.

I guess I can understand it, I love to see the French lose because they hate the English, people who live in the ROI aren't part of Britain so they don't have to support England and there is history there, a lot of it. It's just when people ram it down your throat constantly that it gets a bit wearing but I'll be too busy cheering our boys on to care about a few twonks who think it's hilarious to go on a wind up mission

I think it's just the home nations(and Ireland maybe)wanting something to rally behind...with them not having a team.

So they create a slogan as something to cheer for. It's kinda serious in that they really don't actually want England to win. But it's also meant as a piss take campaign.

We all know they think it anyway so theyve basically just turned it into a t-shirt.
