Is the phrase just a wild assertive guess ?

Anyone with the temerity to say one word against what has now become a Sacred Cow for some will immediately be the recipient of abuse and nasty epithets (the kind with asterisks in them and ending in off)).
My criticism, in the main, is levelled at Channel 5 who seem hell bent on destroying what was ONCE a good programme.

You may well be a forum newbie, but others have been FMs on this and other sites for years, posting observations, criticisms, plaudits, etc, not only regarding BB but probably "a thousand tv shows" because forums are meant for discussion and exchanging points of view - additionally, for the BB LF, forums provided a mechanism for viewers to post blow-by-blow accounts of the "action", including vids and screencaps, so that others without LF were able to catch up on the "truth" and not rely on the HLs .....

Reading the many posts on this thread since 24 hours ago it seems that the vast majority of people are really enjoying Channel 5's Big Brother. But there are just a couple who keep posting negative comments.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would be sitting there so hawkishly to make so very many ongoing negative comments about a show they dislike. I was prompted to come onto a Big Brother forum for the first time purely because this series is so much more intriguing than recent years. There are a thousand tv shows I never watch (and might not like) but I would never dream of rooting out a forum to comment on them.

Charlie O says he doesn't need to see the show to make comments on it. The essence of the show is not that the Eye is different, and cannot be judged by glimpses of the hosemates. Big Brother is a story where A) the editing and B) the selection of housemates are the key factors. I really don't waste time worrying about the Eye when I want to be entertained.

When viewers get drawn into the storylines they start to predict what will happen next. This is when viewers become hooked. I am in this category already. Actually, WE are. We spend time predicting what might come next.

Finally, though I'm no statistician, it seems clear that Channel 4 had three main rival channels, as Channel 5 was always negligible. Channel 5 now has four main rivals, which is 33% more rivalry. Of course their ratings will be a bit lower, but with the current format and storylines they have every chance of increasing the share of viewers over time.

I certainly hope they do.
What has the fact that you're a new member got to do with anything? Do you want me to blow smoke up your arse because you only have a handful of posts? You didn't explicitly mention that you were reffering to your family so you can't blame me for not instantly assuming you were talking about your blood krew, souljah boy.

As for this continuing perplexity towards people making negative comments about the show it's not that difficult to wrap ones head around : This is not a Big Brother 2011 discussion forum. It's a Big Brother discussion forum. A place to discuss the show in general, amongst other things. You won't find the likes of Charlie or myself trolling highlight show discussion threads pretending we know what is happening in the house and declaring it to be a bit poo.

You will however find us giving our two cents on why we didn't like what we saw before we tuned out. You will see our sort chiming in with why we think Big Brother has gone down the crapper. You will see us contribute to general threads like this regarding the ratings and whatnot with our opinion on why things have gone the way they have gone.

We have every right as fans of the show in general to do these things. It's a discussion forum for both positive and negative opinions and it's really, really not that hard to understand. The comparison you drew about signing up to a forum about a show you dislike is hillariously out of depth.

Welcome to TiBB.

The editing is better than ever it was and we have to keep rewinding to see little background reactions. Last night, Mark mimicking Aden and Rebeckah hugging was a scream; Heaven massaging any eviction possibilities out of Tashie; Alex's face when Aaron asked her to go away. All gems.

The editors are managing to tell a few good stories without narration.

We absolutely loved, at Nominations, how Faye went in all prepared for blubbering with toilet paper. And she was the one who had talked all tough beforehand!

And it's always fun to see the trouble-makers cowering in the diary room like Jay did last night when being told off for the mattress going in the pool. "It was everybody else's fault." This so mirrors real life.

Just wish we could get Five Star on Freesat.

It's hard to understand why people would post on here such negative doom-laden comments as above, maybe they are Channel 4 employees?

The selection of housemates has been very good (not quite excellent) and having so many singles clearly leads to more spice.

Well done Channel 5.
Maybe you're a Channel 5 employee with that post

It would maybe mirror real life if the mirror was a plank of wood.

Big Brother only pulled in 900,000 viewers last night there is just no way you can get anything positive out of that.

I never ever thought i would see BB drop below 1 million its such a shame to see it failing so hard because the show is the best one in years imo.

Channel 5 ****ed themselves and the fans in the arse by axing Live Feed and putting it on straight after CBB.

I agree with all of the above. It's a lot better that I've seen BB being in recent years - to the point that I am now making a point of watching it.

Channel 5 seem to think that they bought an audience as well as a show, well when you treat the audiences like dirt and ram "changes" down their throats it's to be expected that they will turn away from you, but hey, Desmond has deep pockets, what the hell does he care as long as he can milk made-up sensations for his downmarket press empire.

The diehard core fanbase obviously will watch wnenever it's on but the ratings are increasingly showing that that fanbase is way less than a million,

As I said all along they should have rested it for at least 2 years. Allowed people to miss it.

Greed has ruined a programme I used to enjoy and be addicted to for years.

Now it just seems dated, old fashioned and naff.

I take no pleasure in being proved right, but there's always a satisfaction in that.

Let's face it when they have to get Lauren Harries on to do a fashion spot something is seriously wrong.

Such a shame, i'm really enjoying the show! it's been on at ten or just after all week bar eviction night, tonight they decide to put it on at 9 in direct competition with spooks and downton abbey, two very popular programmes! Tonights ratings will be dire too.

I personally agree actually with Anglo, however I have been chatting to a family who live near to us students here and they are only watching it on and off, they are BB fans and they watched CBB completely but they say viewers now are celebrity obsessed in the main.

They think ordinary people don't work in long running programmes now, they pointed out that Dancing on Ice without celebrities in it would not be a success either like it is now.

This family, and I agreed with them feel it's impossible to attach to a housemate who you barely see because of such limited footage of them.
Maybe it is the celebrity BB that will remain and maybe on for longer in the future, CBB certainly was deemed a success for Channel 5.

Not a scientific result in any way, but if others are doing like the family I spoke to this morning and are only watching BB on and off, moreso on eviction nights only, while also watching a CBB series totally, well that may be becoming the norm for BB.

A much lower audience for BB but a much better one for CBB as with most other reality TV now.

Not necessarily, the contract could be broken if need be. If viewing figures get too low advertisers will pull out and then BB will go for good.

No way c5 would do that seeing as it's probably their biggest viewer rated show.
