I'm referring to her ranting on and on all the time or do we all have to agree that she's an amazing housemate for that too?

Ranting on and on meaning other people can't talk -> people getting pissed off at not being given chance to speak -> bad feelings -> more feuds/drama -> more talking points -> more reasons for viewers to tune in/social media discussion -> better for the show

It's cyclical

I would hate to live with her and I see what you're saying, but in the context of the show this is a good thing. Anything housemates do that are annoying they should continue to do for the benefit of storylines

No it doesn't mean that Jack. It may happen that way once or twice but most of the time they just wait until they can talk or walk away like Christopher done twice tonight.

And I disagree with your second point, so some people on online forums like and support the controversial housemates and constant arguing but the majority of the public still can't stand to watch them and that's why they get voted out, it's also why people like Sam win because most of the public really do not want a nasty person winning.

Seriously bored of the same entertainment argument every series tbh hell I don't mind arguing but its not the be all and end all of the entire show and it wasn't the point of this thread at all, I find Pauline's constant going on to be annoying as hell and no it's not entertaining for me, and reading through this thread I'm certainly not the only one to think that..

Entertainment is an individual preference <<<< (I might actually sig this opinion)

No it isn't that's the point.

No one said they don't want any drama on the show at all, see the posts above. But it's not the only thing that's important.

But it does (on the whole) make a more talked about and thus popular show, which ultimately rules over everything. It's no coincidence that there's examples of ratings rising after controversial events occur in series.

And BB13 is overrated on here but boring it was not

Yes they can walk away, but my point is the more she keeps doing it, the more it becomes an annoyance. There's only so many times you can walk away from something you find irritating in a house you're living in 24/7 (case in point: Danielle), if people keep on pushing and pushing and continuing to do things that annoy other people, there is a 99% chance that there'll come a point where someone gets fed up and has to say something. So if she continues then it will continue to fester bad feeling.

The reason they get voted out is for two reasons, one being a) vote to evict, which gives people the necessary means and enticement for b) not voting logically. The majority of voters are casuals who are naturally going to watch the show, see something kicking off, take a side and think 'get that bitch out!!!!!!!1', without actually stepping back and looking at it objectively and thinking 'wait...I'm tuning in because the show is interesting, I'm being inspired to talk about it on social media/forums/with my friends and family, that must be because of the events in the house...who's involved in those events...guess I should keep them in for the shows sake'. Vote to evict encourages people to vote like that, with their hearts rather than their heads.

Whether you like the 'big characters' that provide such controversy or drama is up to you, but one thing that is not an opinion is that it is good for the show because of the cycle I explained. It doesn't even need to be arguments per se, just storylines/notable events/moments/things that actually spark discussions. You don't see people on Twitter or on here having a discussion over what the housemates are having for dinner, or the ins and outs of Tamara and Winston's sexual partners do you? It's not surprising that when something kicks off, the amount of activity on here goes up and almost all of the threads are about said event/housemates involved, and the same goes for social media and real life discussions. Nobody on Wednesday is going to be talking about Ashleigh and Kimberly's friendship, they're going to be giving their thoughts on the Helen and Danielle row. It's these events (and again I stress it doesn't have to be drama, but that is the most common theme) that spark discussions which provokes interest in the show which ultimately increases its popularity. It's beneficial for the show. I don't see how people can't make this blindingly obvious connection.

Ratings have no effect on what I enjoy watching.

I could also say BB3 has the biggest ratings BB ever had and it didn't have anywhere near as much pathetic drama but I know it's irrelevant when people are discussing what they enjoy watching.

Whether the shows popular or not, I don't have to like it.

I watch Big Brother for the interaction between very different people (which can include the off argument or drama) and how they get to know one another, conversations the housemates have late at night, the stories from their lives they have etc.

I know Big Brother is more about the "action" and the bitchiness nowadays, it doesn't mean I find it entertaining.

She is the sole reason the divide started.

I like a bit of drama on BB. I tend to end up liking the more controversial housemates rather than the 'nice' ones...but it can't be all about drama. If I wanted that I would be watching crap like geordie shore instead

The way this series has begun is perfect, its been a slow build up to an argument and by the time the argument arrived we knew the housemates well enough to then judge them after.. and the house hasn't erupted from day 1 with people screaming at each other.. Rather than having another argument tomorrow i am all for a few days calm.. bit of bitching.. and more stories to then develop. I just get the impression a lot of people would rather have the arguing going on every day, which is fine.. but we all have different views on entertainment.

LOL I know me too and I have NEVER understood this argument because it always pops up as a criticism of the 'entertaining housemates' view

Some of my favourite parts of the highlights show and the live feed when we get it/used to have it are the deep conversations housemates end up having about politics, religion, philosophy, their life experiences etc. I enjoy getting to know the housemates like that, they break up the show and they made for engaging viewing on the feed, I would sit and watch those conversations for hours on end.

But that isn't the be all and end all of the show, the highlights have to be intriguing and HAVE to have things that viewers can pick apart and talk about, and if you talked to the editors and story teams at Elstree they would be telling you exactly the same thing that that's the kind of thing they try and produce from the edit, discussion. Because that's what a show like this relies on.

If all the housemates got along and there wasn't any notable events or talking points, the discussion on here, social media and real life would plummet, as would the ratings and I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the very people who criticise said housemate types would be complaining that the show is 'boring' and would be disappointed with how it's performing. Unfortunately this connection is only made WHEN we actually get a boring series where not a lot happens, which thankfully isn't often...

We have this 'its boring if you vote out the bitches' every year, and not one eviction has ever changed the house as much as people claim it will, from my memory anyway.

Excluding the quad in bb11, which WAS ridiculous and killed the final week totally.

But even then it wasn't completely detrimental IMO, it was the final 3-4 days.

I feel like I rarely agree with Vicky on things and while I guess if I squint and tilt my head a bit I see both sides of the argument, but ultimately I feel like things get overstated to the extreme. A single eviction never changes the house as much as people act like it will, VTE never kills a series like people think it will, the show won't get cancelled because of low ratings as a result of all the "talking points" (this actually might be the worst phrase used on this forum) being evicted, etc. Entertainment is subjective and just because you're Doing Something doesn't mean that you're a good HM automatically. I think Arron from BB13 is the ultimate example of this. I don't think "loud asshole" is an entertaining trait and he got a lot of attention for doing stupid pranks and being annoying (not only to the others but to the viewers), but his airtime didn't really impress me at all. Like, quality over quantity you know? If someone who has a high visibility is evicted it's certainly not the end of the world. In fact, I think it opens up plenty of new opportunities for storylines (since I'm rewatching BB10, Noirin is a prime example. Also, this is why I'm fully behind the idea that Speidi should've been evicted first in CBB11, since a storyline that by all means should've lasted for a week ended up having to go on for an entire series.)

To bring this back to Pauline... I don't have a definitive answer yet. It's still early and I'm trying to discern whether I just find her annoying or if I appreciate what she's bringing. Time will tell I guess.
