I think the army has changed since national service, we're now tackling terrorist organisations like ISIS and Al Queda, I think it'd be unfair to force that on a 16 year old.

However I do think in college there should be something like 15 hours a year doing community service, so working for a charity or picking up litter or something good for the community

I think it's an excellant idea. Young people who have no discipline in the home can benefit from guidance anddiscipline.
They still have it here in Denmark and a lot of young people seem to enjoy the experience. People are excused if they are in further education or have a medical reason, but otherwise young men and women are required to serve for 2 years from 18-20
